Austrian GIP information available as open government data

Author: Adrian Offerman

The Austrian Graph Integration Platform (GIP) has made its national transport graph available to the public for re-use. Although some of this information was already exported for specific applications, the data will now be published in full under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 license, allowing for any re-use — even commmercial — as long as the source of the information is specified.

The GIP network information is collected by the Agency for Traffic Infrastructure from the federal states, the cities, the municipalities, the Highway Financing Corporation (ASFiNAG, i.e. the Austrian toll road agency) and the infrastructure department of Austrian Federal Railways. (ÖBB Infrastruktur). The various subnets are integrated and checked for quality on a regular basis by GIP Operations.

Two test datasets were made available in May, giving users the opportunity to give feedback about the formats being used.
